Folk rock duo Brewer and Shipley headlined a benefit concert on Oct. 6 to help aid victims in the recovery areas in the Gulf Coast damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
Water is flooding in from the roof. Two workers are trapped, one alive, one dead. An exposed coal seam allows methane to contaminate what is left of the air in the mine. The water will have to be pumped out, and the mine ventilated, to remove the explosive gases in order to save the one living miner left.
Last year, the Writing Center began a pilot program for offering editing services to UMR graduate students. 173 graduate students used this service during that time. This year, the School of Engineering decided against offering this service to its graduate students.
UMR has been known and respected for many years for being a credible research institution. This week, UMR made an even bigger stride in this respect by forming a partnership with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). This partnership became official after a ceremony held in the Havener Center Atrium on Monday, October 10th.
